POSITION PURPOSE
The Accounting Manager - Japan is primarily responsible for preparing and reviewing monthly management reporting, managing the payments and receipts processes, ensuring compliance with statutory and tax requirements, assisting with preparation of detailed annual budgets and monthly rolling forecasts, and refining financial processes for Aesop Japan.
In addition, the Finance - Japan will play a key role in the implementation of a number of companywide projects in Japan, including a number of efficiency, Sox & Compliance, internal control systems and processes.
The role reports directly to the head of Finance - Japan, with a strong dotted line relationship with the Finance Manager - Japan.
Audit, Tax and statutory compliance requirements

Manage preparation, lodgment of returns and cash settlements of all sales tax / VAT returns, in conjunction with local advisers;
Ensure all Corporate income tax installments are calculated, lodged and paid on time in conjunction with local advisers;
Coordinate the annual financial audits and other external audit including but not limited to working with Local Finance Business Partner(s) in the information gathering process to fulfill requests by auditors during quarterly reviews, taxation jurisdiction audits and fiscal year-end audits;

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Coordinate and Reporting

  • Prepare and review monthly management reporting in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) within set timeframes.
  • Ensure that the company balance sheets have all been reconciled and have appropriate supporting documentation for audit purposes.
  • Review monthly P&L and balance sheets for errors/omissions, ensure compliance with company accounting policies and ensure that the basis of preparation of financial information is in accordance with local statutory requirements.
  • Report and track CAPEX spending against approved limits and highlight projects that will potentially vary from this limit.
  • Co-ordinate quarterly stocktakes with retail, department store and wholesale teams, obtain explanations for all variances outside tolerance levels, ensure that all stocktake adjustments are recorded in local subsidiary accounts and provide standardised reporting back to head office;
  • Manage and review all lease documentation within LeaseEagle
Compliance and Governance

The Accounting Manager - Japan will be responsible for the following, in conjunction with local advisors and finance teams:

  • Co-ordinate the completion and lodgement of all tax compliance requirements, including corporate tax, GIT/VAT/Sales tax returns, employment taxes etc.
  • Ensure that all required corporate secretarial documents are lodged by their due dates;
  • Ensure company policies and procedures are followed within Aesop Asia subsidiary and that appropriate financial controls are in place;
  • Provide local assistance to Global Treasury with co-ordination of opening/changeover of all local bank accounts
  • Act as key point of contact to our banking provider and manage queries relating to the bank and commercial card accounts.
  • Assists in defining the control objectives and monitoring compliance efforts. Review test findings within the internal/External audit team, and facilitate the remediation of controls gaps and escalate possible critical issues to the head of Finance - Japan.
Commercial support

Cash flow and Working capital management

  • Prepare and maintain an annual rolling cash flow forecast (updating monthly), incorporating feedback from the Head of Finance.
  • Analyse monthly working capital balances and investigate variances in key working capital ratios
  • Review trade receivables aging on a monthly basis and take action on past due accounts;
  • Monitor inventory balances and obtain explanations from the Logistics and Inventory Manager for large fluctuations
  • Ensure creditor trading terms are maximised
Process improvement

The Accounting Manager - Japan will liaise with head office with respect to improving the efficiency of finance processes and building an effective control environment within the Japanese subsidiary. This will extend to but not be limited to:

  • Reduce the time required to close month end and report results by leveraging internal IT resources and refining existing manual processes;
  • Strengthen internal controls surrounding all finance related operations, both back office and at a retail level;
  • Continuous improvement of monthly analysis as business needs change;
  • Periodic review of financial systems and reporting to ensure analysis and reporting are in line with business needs.

応募資格

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in one or more of the following degrees: Business, Accounting, Finance Commerce or similar.

  • Professional qualifications: Chartered Accountant/CPA or equivalent recognised professional qualification.

  • experience in finance & accounting with a background in the retail industries (preferred).

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and escalate issues and process improvements

  • Hands-on, practical problem solving and process improvement skills and ability to complete tasks within set timeframes.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - both Japanese and English.

  • Experience with Netsuite and Retail Pro or Cegid an advantage
